1. The stock airbox and intake setup
is fairly restrictive on the Cooper S so with this in
mind ABD Mini has created our own intake system
that will increase HP and throttle response throughout
the RPM range. The Monster Force Air Intake will wake
up the supercharged motor of the Cooper S so follow
along as we install the Intake. All you will need for
this installation are basic hand tools and about 45
minutes. The first step is to locate your factory airbox
and intake tube.
2.
The next step is to remove the clip on the end of the
stock intake tube that secures it to the airbox. This
is done with a small screwdriver. You will not be re-using
this clip so throw it away. New hardware is supplied
with the Monster Force Intake.
3.
The next step is to remove the top half of the factory
airbox. You will need a small torx head driver to do this.
The top half of the airbox is not re-installed later but
do not remove the bottom half of the airbox as it is used
with the Monster Force Intake. There are 2 torx head screws
that need to be removed to free the top half of the airbox.
4.
Now you will be able to remove the top half of the airbox.
Before you pull it off, make sure you move the plastic
battery terminal mount off the airbox top by pulling
it up and towards the passenger side of the car. This
will allow it to slide off its mount and hold itself
up. You do not need to do anything else with the battery
mount. If you like you can zip tie it to another harness
but this is not necessary. Now, to remove the factory
air box top, push it towards the firewall on the car
and pull the back end up and it should pop off. (intake

5.
Now remove the factory air filter form the bottom half
of the airbox.
6.
Now you will be removing the factory intake tube. Before
you can remove it form the throttle body you will need
to detach the breather line coming off the intake tube.
To do this you will need to look on the backside of the
intake tube for a small rubber line coming off the intake
tube. This line will have a clamp on it that will need
to be slid off of the line to remove it. To do this you
will need to get a vice grip to grasp the clamp and slide
it down the line. Now pull the line off the fitting on
the intake tube. Do not detach the line form the motor!
(intake 6.jpg)
7.
Now you will need to use a long screwdriver to reach down
to the base of the intake tube and undo the other clamp
holding the intake tube to the throttle body. You can
throw this clamp away as well because the Monster Force
Intake comes with new hardware.
8.
Now you will just have to pull up on the intake tube and
it should pull right off of the throttle body. Now you
have completed the disassembly of the factory intake system.
You are now ready to begin installing the Monster Force
Intake. (intake 8.jpg)
9.
The first step is to take the supplied silicone off of
the Monster Force Intake and fit it around the throttle
body so that it seats flush all the way around the mounting
base of the throttle body. It is important to get the
silicone all the way down or the Intake tube will sit
up too high and could contact the hood.
10. Now that you have gotten the silicone down
as far as it needs to be, take one of the supplied hose
clamps and slide it down the silicone and secure it
at the base of the throttle body-mounting flange. Make
sure you get this tight because this piece supports
the intake.
11.
Now take you Monster Force Intake Tube and slide it into
the silicone as far as you can. The base of the tube should
almost contact the throttle body. You may need to trim
down the silicone to get the Intake Tube to go down far
enough.
12.
Now put on the other hose clamp that is provided with
the kit and tighten it down to secure the intake tube
inside the silicone.
13.
Now add the K&N air filter provided in the kit to
the end of the Monster Force Intake Tube. This filter
will sit partially inside of the bottom half of the airbox.
The reason for this is because the bottom half of the
air box has a fresh air feed from the front grill of the
car that ducts the outside air into the bottom half of
the airbox, thus creating a ram air effect. The K&N
filter will get that fresh air feed and give you colder
air. Once the filter is positioned on the Intake tube,
tighten it down with the supplied clamp.
14.
The last step is to connect the breather line up to the
fitting on the Monster Force Intake Tube. Just slide the
line onto the fitting and then slide the clamp over to
hold the line in place.
15.
Now your intake is installed on the car and you are set
to go. Make sure all your connections are tight and that
there are no air leaks. Also make sure your Intake Tube
is not contacting the hood. If so , you may need to cut
a little of the silicone away to move the Intake Tube
down. Stay tuned because there is much more to come with
ABD Mini’s Project Cooper S!
