The car was
built via a partnership with Volkswagen of America and Mattel
corp. to celebrate Barbie’s 50th birthday.
Volkswagen contacted ABD Racing werks to complete the build
process. In conjunction with Katzkin doing the upholstery work
and Foam Molders / Doug Starbuck doing the beautiful paint
inside and out.
ABD Racing werks has more than 19 years experience in building
European based show cars of all makes and models. When we were
contracted to build this car we had to keep in mind beauty
was the most important factor as well as form and function
yet high fashion was the key element.
The Barbie beetle has more than 300 rhinestones attached
on both the interior and exterior which beautifully compliments
two tone suede seating throughout. Most of the interior panels
as well as a few choice engine parts we also treated to Barbie
pink paint coating to finish off the look.

Basically the entire car was disassembled
inside and out, customized in every aspect and then put back
together.
The wheels have been powder coated brilliant white with a
pink pinstripe covering the outer edge finally wrapped
in Pirelli tires on all four corners. The beetles outside
appearance is very flattering and to aid in the overall
stance a set of Eibach Pro-Kit sport springs have been
added to achieve just a touch of a performance element
to the project.
The Barbie Beetle made it’s media premiere at the Barbie Beach house located
in Malibu California, of course Barbie has everything.
