With the rebirth of the new Jetta some mixed emotions were
quickly expressed to the public. As most expressed there
concern regarding the outside appearance those who drove
even those early 2.5l examples were quick to learn that it
was what was on the inside that counts. The suspension improvements
were vast when compared to the last chassis. The overall
fit and finish was noticeably tighter than before and so
on.
Enter the all new 2006 Jetta GLI version equipped with
the new leader in performance the 2.0l FSI turbocharged power
plant. The delivery of power was smooth as the 200 hp comes
alive with a transition of pleasant notation. With the 2.0l
FSI engine mated to the all new DSG automatic transmission
it is truly a match made in heaven. Finally we have an automatic
transmission that will shift faster than a manual with out
the loss of power experience in past auto-trans versions.
I for one have become a huge supporter in the DSG program
and can only image hat the future might bring.
Once the Jetta was pressed on the road you can really appreciated
not only the new power plant but the wonderful suspension
improvements as well. With an all independent rear swing
the sedan can really lay down the asphalt with ease. Aggressive
driving though a local canyon proved positive that this is
a serious sports sedan to be reckoned with for the competition.
On the exterior the GLI as some visual
improvement when compared to the standard Jetta. Quick to
notice one will find the front grille is a much more aggressive
and pleasing effect with a honeycomb insert and black finish.
All the trim is tined down with a matte black finish running
the length of the car. The GLI wheels are a nice addition
showing us the increased performance oriented brake components.
As the all around package of the GLI really brings this new
Jetta alive. This model is sure to be a hit with the tuner
crowd as the easily upgraded turbocharged engine is sure to
become another standard of the industry as its 1.8t predecessor. |
