When the new Passat test car arrived at our facility it was immediately surrounded by all of our curious employees. As the past couple of Passat offerings became so popular with our marketplace everyone was interested in seeing what was out now that improved upon those very successful vehicles. As one reporter I must admit the new car is more than capable of making all forget just how great the last version may have been because this latest offering is on entirely new level. Every aspect of the new Passat has changed from the last version, interior, exterior, drive train and placement there of etc… the list goes on as this is an entirely new and improved car.

Outside the Passat is very reminiscent of the earlier released Phaeton and that’s a good thing as we all agreed it is a very good move in the upscale direction. No longer can these cars be considered comparable to the offerings from the most popular Asian brands as the latest models from Volkswagen across the board are to be compared now to those available from the likes of BMW and Mercedes Benz, the Passat is a high line car. Our loaner was equipped with the latest turbocharged motor in the form of a 2.0L with an all new FSI style fuel injection system. This motor comes with a noticeably powerful 200 hp and once mated with the advanced 6 speed tiptronic auto transmission I found this to be a great combination for this type of all around sports sedan. The car is also available in a manual shift format for those grass roots persons, however if that’s you I recommend buying a GTI instead as the Passat is for comfortable driving all around.

The new body style was very pleasing to the eye as every angle has been changed from the last offering. More aggressive wraparound headlamps proved exceptionally attractive as well as great performers for safe night driving. The rest of the up front grille work is also an attractive addition assisting in the upscale appearance for the Passat. From the side the car showed its true talent as you can envision four comfortable passengers placed comfortably in this 4-door midsized sedan. The trunk appearance again was modernized with combination clear and red tail lamp treatment. Interior of the trunk was also increase noticeably which is a value in itself.

The most noteworthy part of the interior is the term “less is more” and the new Passat really takes that to another automotive level. With the wrap around center consol flowing into the dash area its is obvious VW hit there mark The center panels are all treated to a brilliant silver metallic finish with a nice pattern not experienced in another vehicle , yet as I am sure someone will catch one. Each power seat was adjustable to every conceivable position and once you’re in place turn on the seat heater and you could not be more comfortable in a car seat. Rear passengers are also treated to full leather wrapped seating with a nice fold down arm rest / drink holder combo in the center. The Passat has plenty of room for four adults to be comfortable and it wouldn’t be that bad if a fifth person was to join that party.
